SMART Technologies Inc. Brings Interactive Presentation Technology to Auditoriums and Lecture Halls With SMART Sympodium™ IC-150 and IM-150 Integration Modules

Interactive lectern integration modules are easily built into custom podiums or desks

Calgary, AB --- April 18, 2002 --- SMART Technologies Inc. announces two new products, the SMART Sympodium IC-150 and IM-150 integration modules. Ideal for conference centers, auditoriums and lecture halls, these interactive lectern integration modules are targeted to integrators who design and build custom presentation furniture, such as podiums or desks.

The SMART Sympodium IC-150 integration module includes an interactive console and is powered by award-winning SMART Board software. When the IC-150 is integrated into a podium or desk, the presenter works at the LCD screen using the tethered stylus to control, edit and annotate over computer-based material. With the room's projector displaying the presentation onto a larger screen, the audience can easily follow along.

The SMART Sympodium IM-150 integration module includes all the components and functionality of the IC-150 plus the SMART X-Port 30 multimedia switch. Using the switch, a presenter can smoothly transition between three peripherals, such as an internal computer, laptop and document camera. The guest laptop can be easily connected to the X-Port 30 unit, gaining access to all the console's interactive features.

"The Sympodium IC-150 and IM-150 integration modules provide system integrators with an ideal solution for creating multimedia presentation environments in auditoriums and large lecture halls," says Nancy Knowlton, president and COO of SMART Technologies Inc. "Presenters can work comfortably at a podium or desk, facing their audience with all their technology tools and content at their fingertips."

Interactive Console
The interactive console connects to a computer and displays the computer image. The console features a 15" (diagonal) screen with digitizer and tethered battery-free stylus. Using the stylus, the presenter simply touches the screen to control computer applications and write electronic notes. Buttons on the console make it easy to change the stylus's output (left- and right-mouse clicks, ink color, eraser) or to bring up the on-screen keyboard. With the computer image projected onto a larger screen, the audience sees the presenter's notes as he works.

SMART X-Port 30 Multimedia Switch
The SMART X-Port 30 multimedia switch controls data, audio and video for up to three peripherals, such as an internal computer, laptop and document camera. To alternate between devices, the presenter presses a button on the control panel – the X-Port 30 switch ensures a smooth transition from one peripheral to another. Movable brackets attach the X-Port 30 unit to a standard 19" rack, or to the top of or under any flat surface.

SMART Board Software
With SMART Board software, a presenter can write over top of any computer application, edit notes and save everything in a single file. SMART Notebook whiteboarding software, which is included with SMART Board software, captures and saves object-based notes and provides unlimited whiteboarding space. SMART Board software is compatible with both Microsoft® Windows–based and Macintosh computers.
